Making your own seed pot is not only eco-friendly but will save you money too. Ideal for half-hardy annuals like fuchsia, cosmos, zinnias, and antirrhinum, the newspaper pots are completely biodegradable. When the plants are ready to go outdoors, the whole pot can be planted into the soil – which saves disturbing the roots.
You will need:
Newspaper
Pal / cylindrical object
Compost (why not try Peat Free?)
Seed
Step by step:
- Using the newspaper cut/tear into a strip of around 8cm x 57cm (for longer cut 14cm tall) and wrap loosely around the Pal/cylindrical object.
- Fold over the excess newspaper at the flat end of the Pal. Press and twist into the base, making the bottom hold together on its own.
- Remove the pot and fill most of the way with your chosen compost.
- Add your seed and then fill it with more compost to cover.
- Remember to water and watch your seedling grow.
